The Foundation Certificate in Marketing comprises of two modules – Marketing Principles and Digital Essentials or Customer Communications.
Marketing Principles (mandatory)
This module explores the function of marketing and its role in an organisation, as well as how the marketing mix is used to satisfy customer needs. For anyone new to marketing, it provides the perfect introduction.
Digital Essentials (elective)
This module explores a number of key concepts associated with digital marketing, including the impact of the changing digital environment, the digital tools used for communications, the importance of digital content in the context of digital campaigns, and how digital campaigns can be monitored. This module is ideal for anyone who wants to start learning about Digital Marketing.
Customer Communications (elective)
This module provides an understanding of how marketing communications can be used in practice to engage with customers. You will explore how to develop a successful marketing communications campaign and learn how the campaign can be put into practice. This module is a comprehensive introduction to marketing communications.
Who is this course for?
The Foundation Certificate in Marketing is ideally suited for:
- those in a job that already involves marketing or
- those interested in a potential career in marketing.
It is not necessary to have any previous experience or knowledge of marketing*, and you can choose to study via evening classes or intensive weekends – whichever way suits your requirements and availability.
If English isn’t your first language, you will also need to demonstrate you have achieved one of the following English language qualifications within the last two years:
- IELTS Academic Module with an overall score of 6.5 (each component pass mark must be 6.0 or above).
- Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English grade B or above.
CIM will consider other equivalent alternatives.

A combination of assessment methods are used within the Foundation Certificate of Marketing depending on which module you are taking.
Assessment methods used within the qualification are employer-driven, practitioner-based, relevant and appropriate to business needs.They are designed to be meaningful, to bring learning to life and to reflect the demands of modern industry.
How long will it take to complete the course?
You could complete the Foundation Certificate in Marketing within six months.
Tuition fees include face-to-face classroom sessions, plus access to a range of support mechanisms offered by the school, including webinars, online resources, revision sessions and one-to-one sessions with tutors.
Additional Professional Body Fees
In addition to your NW School of Marketing tuition fees, CIM, as the awarding body, requires all students to become members and pay an assessment entry fee (payable direct to CIM):
