Course Overview

The Diploma in Sustainable Marketing enables learners to explore key aspects of sustainability and identify those which could create long-term value for your organisation and its customers, alongside meeting the requirements for the sustainability of the planet.

The level 6 Diploma is one of our most popular CIM qualifications! It is particularly popular with candidates who have at least 2 years experience in marketing role and who are keen to update, refresh or gain new knowledge and skills in marketing.

Course Content

The course is made up of mandatory and elective modules listed below.

To gain the Diploma in Sustainable Marketing you’ll need to achieve a pass in three mandatory modules:

This module will enable you to take both a traditional and digital strategic approach to marketing planning, integrating digital strategy, models, frameworks and techniques throughout to achieve competitive advantage.

You will be able to recognise the significance of situation analysis and use techniques to assess the external and internal environments that enable effective decision making. You will also be able to apply all stages within the marketing planning process – from the audit, through strategic decision making, to implementation of plans across both traditional and digital channels.

Finally, you will learn how to manage resources and employ monitoring and measurement techniques that enable the achievement of strategic marketing objectives.

This module enables you to take a visionary approach and embed innovation to help your organisation deal with the challenges of a fast-moving marketplace.

You will be able to understand the relationship between marketing and innovation and recognise the key factors in building and nurturing innovation within the marketing function. You will also be able to use internal and external marketing in supporting a specific innovation.

This module is designed to enable you to explore concepts of sustainability and better understand how to embed these to create long-term value for your organisation. You will consider the role of marketing in engaging with stakeholders to understand how to reframe core strategies and construct a brand purpose that aligns with relevant sustainability imperatives. The module will equip you to plan, resource and execute against key actions and communicate how, and why your organisation is responding to the evolving sustainability agenda, delivering continuous improvement and results.

Is the Diploma for me?

The Diploma in Sustainable Marketing is aimed at marketers working in an operational, supervisory or management role who wishes to develop their knowledge and skills around how marketing can lead and support the business in responding to the sustainability challenges we face.

It is suitable for those working in a managerial or operational role within an organisation concerned with leading the way the business responds to sustainability challenges and are keen to drive and effect real change. The organisation may be looking to develop, or are already implementing a sustainable response through or using the marketing function as a critical driver.

Some typical job titles might include marketing manager, marketing and communications manager, brand manager, marketing consultant. Heads of sustainability and other more specific sustainability related roles could also attend the course.

Course Duration

Assuming you take one module after the other, sequentially, you can complete the Diploma in Sustainable Marketing within one year.

Alternatively, you can opt to complete it at a pace that meets your needs.

We deliver the content for each module over a three month period, with the aim of helping you to be ready to submit your assignment to CIM for marking. If you are not quite ready to submit your report, you can choose to submit at a later point in the year (but this might incur additional fees depending on the circumstances).

CIM Membership and Assessment Costs

There are two costs to consider when completing a CIM qualification: CIM fees and our tuition fees:

CIM Fees are not included in our fees as they are payable directly to CIM at different stages of your course, they include:

  • Membership fees at £65 
  • Assessment fees* at £570 in total (£190  per module).

*Based on successful completion at first attempt. Additional fees are required if resits are taken.

* Students are encouraged to become a CIM member within 30 days of starting a course.
